Crisis Resources You Should Know About
Mental health emergencies do not wait for business hours, and knowing where to turn in the moment can make all the difference. Whether it is for you or for someone you care about, we think everyone should have these resources saved somewhere easy to find.
If You or Someone Else Is in Immediate Danger
Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. These situations need trained, in-person help right away.
988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
Call or text 988 to reach trained crisis counselors, available 24/7, free and confidential. This is the line to use if you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide, is in emotional distress, or just needs someone to talk to during a hard moment. You can also chat online at 988lifeline.org.
Crisis Text Line
Text HOME to 741741 to connect with a trained crisis counselor by text, 24/7, anywhere in the United States. This is a good option if talking on the phone feels like too much, or if you simply prefer texting.
A Few Things Worth Remembering
- These services are staffed by trained people, and reaching out does not mean something is "wrong" with you. It means you are taking care of yourself.
- You can call or text on behalf of someone else if you are worried about them.
- These resources are free and confidential.
- These numbers are specific to the United States. If you are located elsewhere, search for a local crisis line in your own country.
We are a student-led nonprofit focused on education and community outreach, not a crisis service ourselves, so please use the resources above if you or someone else needs help right now. If you want to talk more generally about mental wellness, our Contact page is always open.
